Education is empowering. That’s why for the month of August, Subaru is partnering with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) to purchase, donate, and deliver over 40,000 award-winning K-12 science books to schools across the nation. This initiative will encourage students to be more engaged in the world of science.
Working with the AAAS
Many of the fastest growing jobs in the US are in the field of science, but not many high school graduates are prepared for college science courses. By donating these books, Subaru hopes to equip students across the nation with the tools they need, inspire new ways of thinking, and enable them to be successful in their education endeavors.
The AAAS is a leading source of information on the latest trends in science, engineering, and innovation throughout the world for the benefit of all people. They seek to nurture students’ scientific interests and gifts and their programs provide exciting opportunities and build bridges to careers in the STEM field.
Subaru Loves Learning initiative was created to make the pursuit of knowledge available to as many minds as possible. Through the partnership with AAAS and Google Expeditions, it is encouraging to see how Subaru is investing in the next generation and equipping them with knowledge and resources they might not have access to.
Teaming up with Google
Subaru teamed up with Google as the official U.S. partner of the Expeditions Pioneer Program. The Expeditions Pioneer Program enables teachers to take their students on virtual reality trips. This is a worldwide initiative and kids have been able to see Verona, Italy, the Great Wall of China, and other places that school buses can’t take them to. Through virtual reality, students have been able to expand and broaden their minds and gain a larger sense of the world outside of their community.
Nationwide, Subaru collaborated with the Expeditions team to develop unique virtual reality topics like zero-landfill manufacturing and sustainability. Since May 4th of 2004, Subaru has sent nothing to a landfill. They reuse plastic and other unused materials and recycle unused parts. Specially equipped Subaru vehicles traveled to schools in the US to bring Expeditions kits to classrooms to take the students on a virtual reality field trip.
